Which qualification should you show in a nursing assistant CV?
For nursing assistants, the SRK Nursing Assistant course certificate is the most important entry - it belongs directly in the Education section, along with the number of lessons, practical training and year.
The Nursing Assistant SRK course comprises around 120 lessons of theory and at least 12 practical training days at a long-term care facility or Spitex organisation. So don't just write 'Nursing Assistant' - write 'Nursing Assistant SRK course, 120 lessons and 12 practical training days, Swiss Red Cross Canton X, Year'. HR staff at nursing homes immediately recognise from this that you completed the recognised course and not just an internal short training. If you instead hold the 'Care and Support' course from a training provider or a diploma from abroad, name it exactly as such and add the current status of any recognition by the SRK or the SBFI.
Be sure to include the care-specific certificates that employers check in your application file: BLS-AED-SRC Complete with the year of your most recent recertification, Kinaesthetics basic or advanced course, Palliative Care basic course Level A1, dementia training, and hygiene training. These courses are not mere add-ons - given equal practical experience, they can decide whether you're invited for an interview. List them with the year rather than as an anonymous 'various further training' entry.
If you're planning to work towards the Assistant in Health and Social Care EBA or Healthcare Assistant EFZ qualification through the Art. 32 BBV bridging pathway, mention it in one sentence in your profile. Many institutions support this step and are looking for nursing assistants who intend to stay long-term. Phrase it concretely, for example: 'Goal for 2026: FaGe EFZ bridging qualification under Art. 32 BBV, with validation of practical experience.'
How do you convincingly describe your work experience as a nursing assistant?
For each position, state the type of facility, the number of residents or clients, the care levels, and three to four results with figures.
The most common mistake is listing obvious tasks such as 'personal hygiene, making beds, serving meals'. Instead, set the context: secure dementia care unit with 26 residents and BESA levels 5-11, Spitex round with 12-14 clients under KLV Art. 7, or care department with 32 beds and night on-call duty. From this context, the nursing management can immediately see what level of care complexity you're familiar with and whether you're a good fit for their facility.
Make your impact measurable. Reliable metrics for everyday nursing assistant work include the fall rate per 1'000 care days, the number of newly developed pressure sores, fluid intake achieved in millilitres, weight trends, the number of residents supported during the palliative phase, home visits per day, punctuality rates, or the rework rate in mobile service recording. Onboarding of temporary staff and AGS apprentices can also be quantified.
Also show where your competence ends and collaboration begins. Phrases such as 'immediately reported abnormalities in vital signs and skin condition to the registered nurse (HF)' or 'medication administration only under institutional delegation and double-check control' demonstrate role clarity. This is exactly what employers expect, since the division of responsibility between nursing assistants, FaGe healthcare assistants and registered nurses can be a sensitive issue in daily practice.
How long should the CV be, and does it need a photo?
Two pages, a friendly portrait photo, and details on work permit, workload and shift availability are standard in Swiss nursing.
Keep the CV to a maximum of two pages, describing the last ten years in detail and older positions with just one line. A portrait photo is still standard in Switzerland and even expected in nursing, since teams hire a person, not a number. Choose a recent, professional-looking photo in work clothing or a plain blouse - not a holiday snapshot.
In the header, state your place of residence, citizenship or work permit (for example permit B, C, or cross-border commuter permit G), a category B driving licence with mention of your own car for Spitex work, and your desired workload. Add your shift availability: early, late, night and weekend shifts, and Sunday shifts if applicable. In staff scheduling, this information often determines whether you get invited faster than any wording in the profile.
Only mention your salary expectations if the job posting explicitly asks for them. For nursing assistants SRK, annual salaries typically range from about CHF 52'000 to CHF 62'000 at 100%, depending on canton, experience and the applicable collective employment agreement (GAV); state your expectation as a range and refer to the relevant collective agreement. Finally, attach reference letters, the SRK course certificate and your current BLS-AED certificate as a separate PDF, rather than copying details of them into the CV.

Marlene Zurbrügg
Nursing Assistant SRK with additional qualification in Elderly Care and Palliative Care A1
Nursing Assistant SRK with eight years of experience in long-term care and home care (Spitex), including four years on a secure dementia care unit with 26 residents. I assist with personal hygiene, mobilisation and nutrition, keep vital signs and fluid intake records, and document reliably according to BESA guidelines in the Lobos system. My strength is calm, Kinaesthetics-based support of people with dementia, as well as seamless handover to the registered nurse (HF).
What sets me apart
Dementia support based on Validation: I work with Validation according to Naomi Feil and biography-based activation; on my care unit, restrictive measures decreased from 9 to 3 cases within one year.
Back-friendly transfers: As Kinaesthetics contact person, I trained 14 staff members on the roller board, sliding sheet and ceiling lift; back-related absences in the team decreased by 4 days per person per year.
Accurate care documentation: I record observations on a daily basis in the BESA service catalogue and in Perigon; two internal audits found zero issues with my entries.
Hygiene and outbreak management: During two norovirus outbreaks, I implemented isolation measures according to Swissnoso guidelines and trained 6 temporary staff in correct hand disinfection and use of protective gowns.
Key achievements
Fall rate reduced by 22%. Through systematic fall prevention, adjustment of 18 night lights and non-slip socks for 11 residents, the care unit's fall rate dropped from 4.1 to 3.2 falls per 1'000 care days.
No new pressure sores over 20 months. Consistent repositioning intervals every 3 hours, skin observation using the Braden scale, and early reporting to the registered nurse (HF): 20 months without a new pressure sore among 7 high-risk residents.
Malnutrition identified early. Introduction of fluid and food intake records with a target of 1'500 ml per day; weight stabilised within 6 months for 9 of the 12 residents supervised (+1.8 kg on average).
