What qualification do I need for a job in the automotive trade?
In Switzerland, an EFZ as an Automotive Mechatronics Technician or Automotive Specialist is the usual entry ticket, after which every level of AGVS further training counts.
Always state your qualification exactly as it appears on your certificate: Automotive Mechatronics Technician EFZ specialising in passenger cars or commercial vehicles, Automotive Specialist EFZ, or Automotive Assistant EBA. A company with 3'200 orders and nine lifts operates differently from a rural garage with two productive staff, and HR managers read exactly this difference. This makes it immediately clear whether you know cycle times, direct intake and campaign handling.
This is followed by measurable points that prove your craft: billable hours per year, productivity rate, rework or complaint rate, on-time delivery, number of MFK preparations and their failure rate, number of HV assignments or air conditioning services per season. Avoid phrases like 'reliable execution of repairs'; instead, write how many vehicles you handled per day and what result came of it.
Also show your specialisation, as this is exactly where bottlenecks arise today: bus system diagnostics with waveform recording, ECU programming, battery module replacement, wheel alignment geometry or calibration of camera and radar sensors. Add a short line about your diagnostic equipment and the workshop system used, so the onboarding time for the new company can be estimated.
How long should the CV be, and does it need a photo?
