Which qualification belongs on a warehouse worker's CV?
State your federal qualification first - Warehouse Logistics Specialist EFZ or Warehouse Logistics Assistant EBA - followed immediately by your forklift licence with categories.
The two-year basic training with a Federal VET Certificate (Warehouse Logistics Assistant EBA) and the three-year basic training with a Federal VET Diploma (Logistics Specialist EFZ, specialising in warehousing, distribution or transport) are the usual entry routes. State the specialisation explicitly: anyone wanting to work in a warehouse should not just write 'Logistics Specialist EFZ', but 'specialising in warehousing'. If you entered the field without an apprenticeship, state this openly and instead highlight your years of practical experience, courses and driving licences - many warehouse operations also hire career changers, but require proof of qualification.
Certificates deserve their own section in this profession, not just a passing mention. The forklift licence under Suva guideline 6518 belongs on the CV with categories (R1 counterbalance forklift, R2 reach truck, R4 telescopic handler) and the year of the last refresher. Depending on the sector, add the ADR certificate for dangerous goods, crane operator licence, IPAF mobile elevating work platform licence, first aider IVR level 1, or knowledge of HACCP and GDP for food and pharmaceutical warehouses.
For the next career step, it's worth mentioning ongoing further education: the Federal Diploma of Higher Education examination for Logistics Specialist, the Logistics Administrative Assistant course, or modules in warehouse management. Write 'Federal Diploma examination for Logistics Specialist, exam planned autumn 2026' instead of a vague statement of intent. This signals to warehouse management that you want to grow towards shift supervision or scheduling.
How do I present my work experience as a warehouse worker with figures?
Describe the type and size of warehouse for each position and back up your performance with picking figures, accuracy, pallet spaces and stocktaking discrepancies.
Start each position with the context in one line: type of warehouse (high-bay, block storage, cold storage or dangerous goods warehouse), number of pallet spaces or item lines, shift model and team size. This immediately tells a hiring manager whether you come from an environment that matches their own operation. 'Central warehouse, 12'400 pallet spaces, 3-shift operation, team of 14' says more than three sentences of general description.
This should be followed by three to four bullet points with figures that are actually measured in warehouses: lines per hour, pick accuracy in percent, number of orders picked or roll containers per day, incoming goods pallets per day, stocktaking discrepancy in percent or francs, returns processing time, number of swap bodies loaded, and accident- and damage-free periods. Also mention improvements with before-and-after figures, such as a reduction in the picking error rate from 1.1 to 0.4 percent.
Don't forget the systems: state which warehouse management system you used for postings (SAP EWM or WM, Abacus, Microsoft Dynamics, an in-house WMS) and which picking technology you worked with - Pick-by-Voice, Pick-by-Light, handheld scanners or paper-based picking. If you trained apprentices, wrote shift reports or contributed to an ISO 9001 certification, this also belongs on the CV with figures and the year.
How long should the CV be, does it need a photo, and what is Swiss-specific?
Two pages, a professional portrait photo and clear information on work permit, availability and place of residence are standard in Swiss warehouse logistics.
Keep the CV to a maximum of two pages; with less than five years of experience, one page is enough. A friendly, professional portrait photo is still customary in Switzerland and expected by most logistics companies. Personal details such as year of birth, marital status and nationality are optional but are often included in practice. Avoid design experiments: a clearly structured page that remains readable even printed out in a warehouse office file looks more professional.
For applicants without a Swiss passport, the work permit is a must in the header, for example 'Settlement permit C' or 'Residence permit B, EU/EFTA'. Equally important in this profession: driving licence categories (B, and C1 or C where applicable), willingness to work shifts, nights or Saturdays, place of residence with a realistic commuting distance to the warehouse location, and your earliest possible start date including notice period.
Attach references, your EFZ or EBA certificate and a copy of your forklift licence to your application - warehouse operations will ask for this proof anyway. Salary expectations do not belong on the CV; if the job posting requests a salary expectation, state it in the cover letter as an annual gross salary, for example CHF 68'000 to CHF 74'000 including shift allowances. Finally, adjust your keywords to match the job posting: if it asks for 'SAP EWM' and 'narrow-aisle forklift', make sure these terms appear on your CV.
