CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is looking for a Software Developer to help modernise its Geodetic Metrology data‑management system. The role centres on moving legacy Oracle APEX/PL/SQL tools to a new Java /Spring Boot back‑end together with an Angular front‑end, while also leading the redesign of a critical application used in the Accelerator Complex. Day‑to‑day duties involve dissecting existing Oracle APEX pages and PL/SQL packages to map business processes, building RESTful services with Spring Boot, and creating the Angular user interface. The developer will write automated tests, apply quality‑assurance standards, and follow an agile workflow that covers requirements, design, coding and testing. Interaction with end‑users to capture their needs and close collaboration with IT and multidisciplinary groups across CERN are essential, as is supervising a small team of engineers. The ideal candidate brings solid experience in Java development and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks. Practical know‑how of concurrent and multithreaded programming, as well as a track record of applying software‑quality practices such as code reviews and unit testing, is required. Familiarity with ICT architecture, scalable service design, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud‑native platforms like Kubernetes is also expected. Strong expertise in the Spring ecosystem and in Oracle databases, including PL/SQL, is a must, while prior exposure to Oracle APEX is considered a plus. CERN offers a 40‑hour hybrid work week, a 24‑month contract (extendable to 36 months), and a competitive monthly stipend. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, pension membership, relocation assistance, paid leave, family allowances and on‑the‑job training, including language courses. The position starts on 1 November 2026 and is open to nationals of CERN Member or Associate States who have not previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract. What the role asks for: - CERN Member or Associate State nationality - No prior CERN fellow or graduate contract - Master's in Software Engineering (2‑6 yr) or PhD (≤3 yr) - Fluent English or French, commit to learn basics of the other - Proven Java development experience with Spring framework - Experience with Angular/TypeScript front‑end development - Knowledge of Oracle DB, PL/SQL, multithreading, CI/CD, Kubernetes - Nice-to-have: knowledge of Oracle APEX
