Senior Research Associate – School of Civil & Environmental Engineering

The position of Senior Research Associate (Level B) sits within the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering at UNSW, reporting to Associate Professor Wengui Li. UNSW’s Faculty of Engineering is recognised nationally and internationally for its research output and for graduating the largest cohort of engineers in Australia, while fostering a community that values thoughtful and purposeful practice. In this role the incumbent will conduct both independent and collaborative research projects that align with their appointed discipline, while also pursuing activities that expand their own research expertise. The appointment is part‑time, requiring seven hours of work each week and on‑campus presence three days a week, under a twelve‑month fixed‑term contract. Candidates must hold a PhD in a relevant field or possess comparable professional experience, and demonstrate a proven commitment to staying abreast of developments in their area. A record of high‑impact, high‑quality research, evidence of research leadership, and significant engagement with industry or professional bodies are essential. Strong communication abilities, the capacity to network across a diverse student and staff population, and demonstrated teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration are also required, together with well‑developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
