Omya, a global leader in industrial minerals and specialty materials with a 140‑year heritage, is looking for a Laboratory Technician R&D Operations. The role sits within the research and development department, supporting scientists and engineers who design and optimise mineral‑based products for a wide range of industrial applications. On a daily basis you will carry out chemical and physical modifications of mineral powders, including wet and dry grinding, precipitation, granulation, surface treatment and slurry stabilisation. You will operate pilot‑scale equipment such as ball mills and glass furnaces, perform material characterisation with the appropriate analytical techniques, and keep laboratory instruments calibrated, maintained and trouble‑shotted. Precise documentation and timely reporting of experimental results are essential, as is active participation in cross‑functional team activities and adherence to safety, quality and operating protocols. The position requires a technical education, an apprenticeship or comparable technical degree, in chemistry or another natural science, together with proven laboratory experience. Fluency in both German and English is mandatory, as are solid organisational abilities and a willingness to handle pilot‑scale machinery. Candidates must possess fundamental knowledge of inorganic and organic chemistry and be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Prior work in an ISO‑certified environment is also required.
