Senior Backend Engineer (Media Delivery)

As a Senior Backend Engineer (Media Delivery) you will join the team that owns the end‑to‑end media delivery pipeline, the engine that transforms and serves every image and video for thousands of customers, handling roughly 180 TB of traffic each month. The daily work revolves around extending the media transformation engine, resizing, format conversion and video processing built on FFmpeg and native libraries, through Node.js services and occasional C++ components. You will design, deploy and maintain the surrounding Kubernetes (EKS) environment, authoring Helm charts, configuring alerts and simplifying overly complex configurations. In addition, you will develop the asynchronous bulk‑processing layer, managing job queues, autoscaling for spiky loads and ensuring fair resource distribution. Keeping the delivery path fast and cost‑effective by collaborating with the Varnish, HAProxy and CloudFront caching layer is also part of the remit, as is documenting designs, decisions and run‑books. The role requires proven experience in designing, building and operating high‑quality, scalable backend and background‑processing services using Node.js, TypeScript, Go or comparable technologies. You must have run services in production on Kubernetes, including Helm‑based deployments, monitoring and live‑system debugging. A deep understanding of AWS architecture, especially performance optimisation and cost management for S3, CloudFront, Lambda and ALB at scale, is essential. Proficiency with Docker and Linux environments, plus the ability to read, compile and debug native C++ code, is expected. Fluency in English is mandatory. Additional strengths that will help you succeed include hands‑on experience with media pipelines such as FFmpeg, codecs and image or video processing, and specific expertise in HDR and advanced video workflows. While Frontify's core product is written in PHP, the ability to read and occasionally fix PHP code is welcomed but not required.
