The Mechanical Design Engineer for LHCb will work within the LHCb Technical Coordination section of the LHCb group at CERN. CERN is renowned for its pioneering work in nuclear research, bringing together experts from various fields to advance scientific understanding. The role involves contributing to the CAD modelling of the LHCb detector and developing digital mock-up and digital twin methodologies to support installation, maintenance, and operation. The main day-to-day responsibilities include conceptual design and development of mechanical systems, collaborating with physicists, engineers, and technicians to create practical engineering solutions, and producing engineering documentation, technical specifications, 3D models, and manufacturing drawings. Additionally, the role involves supporting the manufacturing, assembly, testing, and installation of equipment. To qualify, candidates must have initial experience in designing mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD software, with a preference for CATIA V5. Knowledge of CATIA V5, PDM/PLM environments, or structured engineering data management is advantageous. Familiarity with machining, assembly, and testing of mechanical systems, as well as 3D scanning, reverse engineering, or digital twin concepts, is also beneficial. Nice-to-have skills include basic programming skills, ideally in JavaScript and/or Python, and experience with 3D web visualisation technologies. The role requires the ability to work effectively in an international, multidisciplinary team. The position is based at CERN, which offers a dynamic and inclusive work environment. The contract is for 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months, and includes a comprehensive benefits package. What the role asks for: - Initial experience in designing mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD software. - Knowledge of CATIA V5, PDM/PLM environments, or structured engineering data management. - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) with a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation. - National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. - Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language. - No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract. - No University degree or PhD.
