At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, the role of Applied Physicist, ATLAS Muon LS3 Integration and Installation Manager is crucial for the preparation and execution of activities during Long Shutdown 3 (LS3). CERN is dedicated to probing the fundamental structure of the universe using advanced scientific instruments to study fundamental particles. The ATLAS Muon detector will undergo significant upgrades, including the installation of new detector systems and extensive maintenance of existing components. The main day-to-day responsibilities involve ensuring effective coordination across all ATLAS Muon sub-projects. This includes tracking progress, identifying risks, and maintaining effective communication among all participating teams. The role requires close collaboration with various ATLAS Muon sub-projects, ATLAS Technical Coordination (TC), and other relevant CERN groups. The manager will act as the primary interface, providing regular status updates and comprehensive documentation. Additionally, the role involves coordinating technical activities, managing interface issues, and organizing regular coordination meetings to maintain an overview of ongoing and planned activities. To qualify for this role, candidates must have a PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Physics or a related field. Proven experience in coordinating activities for large-scale detector systems or comparable complex scientific installations is essential. Demonstrated experience in planning and managing work programs involving multiple teams and stakeholders, as well as coordinating complex technical projects, is required. Familiarity with safety systems and safety-related technical infrastructure is also necessary. Proficiency in spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French, is a must. Nice-to-have skills include familiarity with installation, integration, commissioning, or maintenance activities in large scientific facilities. The role is based at CERN, which offers a dynamic and collaborative environment. The position involves work in radiation areas, interventions in underground installations, and the possibility of working during nights, Sundays, and official holidays. A valid driving license is required, and the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance due to the occupational health risks associated with the position. What the role asks for: - PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Physics or a related discipline. - Proven experience in the coordination of activities for large-scale detector systems or comparable complex scientific installations. - Proven experience in the planning and management of work programs that involve multiple teams and stakeholders. - Proven experience in the coordination of complex technical projects, management of competing priorities and resolution of planning, scheduling, and resource constraints in a multidisciplinary environment. - Experience with security systems and safety-relevant technical infrastructure. - Oral and written English skills, with the commitment to learn French.
