General Manager Switzerland and Austria

The General Manager for Switzerland and Austria will join American International Group, Inc. (AIG), a worldwide insurer offering property‑casualty, life, retirement and other financial services across more than 80 markets. In this senior role the leader will head AIG's operations in both countries, sit on the DACH Senior Leadership Team and report to the DACH General Manager. Day‑to‑day the manager will be accountable for the full profit‑and‑loss of the Swiss and Austrian businesses, steering underwriting discipline, portfolio quality and sustainable growth. They will design and implement country‑specific strategies and annual financial plans, guide distribution channels with a focus on broker partnerships, and ensure that underwriting, claims, distribution and support functions operate at high performance levels. Continuous improvement projects aimed at service quality, efficiency and cost control will be overseen, while operational risks and opportunities are monitored and reported against corporate targets. The role also requires extensive external engagement. The General Manager will act as AIG's face to major clients, broker partners and regulators, strengthening market position and promoting the AIG DACH brand. Building and maintaining strong relationships with regulators and other key stakeholders, and leading issue‑resolution when needed, are essential parts of the job. Internally, the leader will direct hiring, resource allocation and talent development, fostering a diverse, inclusive and high‑performing culture across both markets, and will coach senior leaders while communicating AIG's vision and strategic direction. AIG looks for a candidate with a proven record of delivering financial and operational success in general insurance, especially in environments that demand profitable growth and change management. The ideal person will have a strong executive presence, be skilled at influencing a wide range of internal and external parties, and possess deep industry knowledge of one or more insurance product lines. Several years of experience running country operations or large functional teams within the DACH region, combined with the ability to lead in complex matrix and cross‑border settings, are required. Excellent communication skills and fluency in both written and spoken German and English are mandatory. A collaborative leadership style and a focus on talent development are also essential.
