Viking, a worldwide leader in experiential travel with a fleet of more than one hundred vessels, operates cruises on rivers, oceans and across continents. The Basel office is looking for a Payroll Manager who will take charge of the German‑language payroll for roughly 700 staff members and will report to the Senior Payroll Manager. The daily work revolves around executing the monthly payroll run using SAP and SuccessFactors, updating and checking master data for new hires, terminations and salary adjustments, and preparing the required reports for health insurers, social security agencies and tax authorities. The role also involves responding to payroll‑related queries, liaising with government bodies and insurance providers, producing employer certificates, supporting social‑security and tax audits, and collaborating with the payroll support team to troubleshoot system issues and test changes. Additional duties include supplying data for HR projects and process‑improvement initiatives. Applicants must have several years of hands‑on experience with German payroll and deep knowledge of German wage tax, social‑security rules and labour legislation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel functions such as pivot tables and VLOOKUP, is required, together with solid expertise in SAP and a strong interest in its technical aspects. Fluency in both German and English, written and spoken, is essential. Candidates should have completed a commercial education with further training in payroll or social insurance, or possess at least six years of professional payroll experience. An independent, precise and reliable work style, combined with a flexible, team‑oriented attitude, is expected. It is advantageous to have previously handled German payroll in an international setting and to be familiar with SuccessFactors. The position is based in Basel, Switzerland, offering a modern workplace, flexible working hours and a fast‑growing, dynamic environment.
