German Language and Literature Expert (German)

Mercor is looking for a German Language and Literature Expert to support a cutting‑edge AI research project carried out together with a leading research laboratory. The position focuses on improving a large language model's performance in German by providing high‑quality linguistic data and feedback. On a daily basis you will assess the quality and accuracy of LLM‑generated German text in tasks such as translation, summarisation, dialogue and grammar correction. You will edit, refine or rewrite German content so it meets linguistic, cultural and literary standards, and you will annotate texts for grammatical, syntactic, semantic and stylistic features. When model errors or linguistic gaps are identified, you will work closely with AI researchers to guide refinements and document detailed literary and linguistic feedback for ongoing training cycles. The role requires native or near‑native fluency in German together with a solid command of grammar, syntax and stylistics. You must have professional experience in literary editing, copywriting, criticism or NLP‑related linguistic annotation in German, and a deep understanding of literary complexity, tone, genre conventions and regional language variations. Impeccable attention to detail, strong written communication skills and proven ability to collaborate with remote, distributed teams are also essential. An interest in AI, translation technologies or LLM‑driven language research is welcomed but not mandatory.
