The Early PostDoc Position on the Governance of Climate Extremes at UniBE focuses on research into drought management and water conflicts, particularly in agriculture and across different sectors. The role involves studying user and protection conflicts under climate extremes, with a specific emphasis on high and low water levels. The position is part of a broader initiative to understand and address the impacts of climate extremes on society and agricultural systems. The main day-to-day responsibilities include conducting research on drought management and water conflicts, applying various social science research methods such as social network analysis, content analysis, and process tracing. The role also involves working on Swiss case studies and collaborating across different disciplines, including political science, justice, ethics, and sustainability transitions. Additionally, the position requires engagement with stakeholders through living labs and focus groups. To be successful in this role, candidates must have a PhD in political science, social sciences, or environmental social sciences. A broad knowledge or interest in the impacts of droughts, heat, floods, and compound events on agricultural systems is essential. Candidates should also have an integrative personality with a strong interest in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary work at the interface of agriculture, water systems, climate, and social science. Excellent command of English is required, along with fluency in either German or French. Nice-to-have skills include a curious and creative mindset, comfort working in exploratory settings, and a willingness to engage with stakeholders. The role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, with the potential for significant contributions to the field of climate governance and sustainability.
