MSc or BSc Thesis / Internship (m/f/d) AI for Intent-Based Networking

ABB in Mannheim seeks an MSc or BSc thesis student or intern to develop AI for intent‑based networking. The role centers on creating algorithms that translate high‑level network intents into automated configuration actions within a global industrial leader. Daily activities include building and testing machine‑learning models, handling large streams of network telemetry, and measuring the performance of intent‑driven control loops in a dedicated test‑bed. You will code primarily in Python, integrate frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, process telemetry data to extract features for training, and evaluate algorithmic results against benchmark scenarios while collaborating with senior engineers. Applicants must hold a solid background in computer science or electrical engineering, demonstrate strong Python skills, and have hands‑on experience with common ML libraries. A good grasp of networking fundamentals, routing, software‑defined networking, and telemetry, is essential. Familiarity with data‑analysis packages like pandas or NumPy and a genuine interest in applying AI to real‑world infrastructure are considered advantageous. The internship offers exposure to cutting‑edge AI solutions, the chance to see research directly influence product development, and the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team at ABB's Mannheim site. What the role asks for: - BSc/MSc in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering - Proficiency in Python programming - Experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch - Knowledge of routing, SDN, and telemetry concepts - Experience with pandas and NumPy (nice-to-have)
