We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to study the interiors and long‑term evolution of sub‑Neptune exoplanets. The role sits in the Exoplanet Interiors and Atmospheres group, led by Prof. Caroline Dorn, and is part of the NCCR Genesis network that links planetary physics, geochemistry, chemistry and biology across Switzerland. The contract lasts two years, with a possible third‑year extension following NCCR Genesis rules, and the start date is flexible, ideally in May 2027. The researcher will advance atmosphere‑interior evolution models specifically for sub‑Neptunes, examine how mixing processes inside the planets affect the spectra we observe, and connect model outcomes to real spectroscopic data. In addition, the work includes creating tools to analyse large samples of observed sub‑Neptunes in order to test ideas about how these worlds form and evolve. Candidates must hold a PhD in astrophysics, planetary science, geophysics, physics or a closely related discipline, completed before the start date. Strong scientific programming skills in Python are required, together with routine use of git for collaborative code development. The position also expects fluent, critical use of AI‑assisted tools as part of everyday research. Relevant experience may include planetary interior or structure modelling, thermal evolution, high‑pressure equations of state, atmospheric modelling, magma‑ocean chemistry or statistical inference. Applicants should demonstrate independence, curiosity and a willingness to work across disciplinary borders. The post is based at ETH Zurich, offering a vibrant research environment, a competitive salary and the usual ETH benefits, plus support for conference travel, computing resources and career development. Zurich consistently ranks among the world's most livable cities. The group collaborates closely with the PLATO mission and JWST programmes, providing excellent exposure to cutting‑edge observational data. What the role asks for: - PhD in astrophysics, planetary science, geophysics, physics or related field - Completed PhD by start date - Strong Python scientific programming - Proficient with git version control - Fluent use of AI‑assisted research tools - Experience in planetary interior or structure modelling - Experience in thermal evolution or high‑pressure EOS - Experience in atmospheric modelling or magma‑ocean chemistry - Experience in statistical inference - Demonstrated independence, curiosity, interdisciplinary interest - Nice‑to‑have: Fortran programming skills
