Head of Accounting

The position is for a Head of Accounting at a privately owned Swiss group. This company operates in various business areas and has a growing portfolio of projects and investments. The company has an entrepreneurial culture, quick decision-making, and ambitious growth plans. The role involves strengthening the finance organization with an experienced professional. The main day-to-day responsibilities include leading and developing a small team of accounting professionals. The role involves taking overall responsibility for the Group's accounting activities, including general ledger and sub-ledgers. This includes managing monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met. The role also involves preparing financial statements under Swiss GAAP FER and Swiss Code of Obligations (OR), supporting group accounting, consolidation, and the accounting of individual legal entities. Additionally, the role involves coordinating external auditors, overseeing tax accounting, and reviewing tax and VAT filings. The role also includes working closely with external advisors on specialist accounting and consolidation matters, ensuring robust accounting processes, controls, and documentation. The role requires several years of experience in accounting, group accounting, audit, or fiduciary services. A recognised Swiss accounting qualification such as Fachausweis Finanz- und Rechnungswesen, Swiss Certified Expert in Accounting and Controlling, or an equivalent background is necessary. Strong knowledge of Swiss GAAP FER and OR, as well as experience with group accounting and/or consolidation, is required. A good understanding of Swiss tax and VAT matters, and previous experience leading or supervising a small team, is also necessary. Fluency in German and good English communication skills are required. Excellent Excel skills are a must, and experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is an advantage. Nice-to-have skills include experience in real estate, construction, or another multi-entity environment.
