HSE Specialist

Bachem is a leading company in the pharmaceutical industry, specializing in the development and manufacture of peptides and oligonucleotides. The company is seeking an HSE Specialist to join their team in Vionnaz, Valais, Switzerland. This role involves supporting site investment projects by ensuring that Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements are integrated throughout the project lifecycle, from design to commissioning. The HSE Specialist will act as the HSE representative for site CAPEX projects and technology transfers, ensuring HSE requirements are met from the earliest design stages through commissioning. This includes promoting Safety by Design principles and risk reduction at source. The role involves organizing and participating in various risk assessments, such as HAZOP, PHA, ATEX, fire, ergonomic, and environmental assessments. Additionally, the specialist will support PSSR and Management of Change (MOC) processes, ensuring the implementation of preventive and protective measures. Compliance with legal requirements, company standards, and industry best practices is a key responsibility, as is verifying their integration into project documentation and specifications. To qualify for this role, candidates must have a higher education qualification in HSE, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field. At least five years of experience in an HSE role within a regulated industrial environment, such as the chemical, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industry, is required. Experience supporting investment, expansion, or facility modification projects is also necessary. Proven experience conducting or facilitating industrial risk assessments and working with contractors on industrial sites is essential. Strong knowledge of process safety, risk management principles, and industrial safety regulations is crucial. Nice-to-have skills include familiarity with ATEX, fire protection, environmental protection, industrial hygiene, SIS principles, and OPAM requirements. Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and influencing skills are important, as is the ability to work effectively in a matrix organization. Fluency in French and professional proficiency in English are must-haves, with German and experience with HSE management systems being advantageous.
