Product Owner (100%)

MDPI, a long‑standing pioneer in open‑access scholarly publishing, seeks a full‑time Product Owner to shape data‑driven experiences across its digital platforms. The role supports researchers and readers by helping them discover relevant content and enjoy a more personalized interaction with MDPI’s journals and services. In practice, the owner will steward the product backlog for a defined area, turning business needs into clear user stories and acceptance criteria. They will run sprint planning, reviews and backlog refinement, ensuring the development team understands requirements and delivers measurable increments. Ongoing duties include tracking delivery and engagement metrics, reporting on progress, handling blockers, and communicating timelines to stakeholders as the primary business liaison and voice of the customer. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Data Science or a related discipline, with a master’s degree viewed favorably. At least two years of experience in product ownership or comparable delivery roles, together with a solid background in Agile/Scrum, backlog management and sprint planning, are required. Proven collaboration with cross‑functional stakeholders, skill in crafting user stories, value‑based prioritisation, and familiarity with product analytics and KPI tracking are essential. Applicants should be comfortable with tools such as Jira and Microsoft 365, possess strong communication, problem‑solving and organisational abilities, and demonstrate professional English proficiency at C1 level. A Product Owner certification (e.g., PSPO, CSPO) and experience in user‑engagement or digital products are advantageous. The position is fully on‑site in MDPI’s Basel office, conveniently located near the train station and city centre.
