The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral, independent body that delivers protection and humanitarian aid to people caught in armed conflict and other violent situations worldwide. Its mandate, rooted in the Geneva Conventions, involves coordinating with national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies to mount swift, organized responses for victims of war and internal strife. The vacancy is for a Health Delegate who will operate at the field level to guarantee that affected communities receive appropriate medical care, both during emergencies and in more stable periods. In this position you will evaluate the health priorities of populations under stress, taking into account vulnerability, existing coping strategies and local viewpoints. You will design and suggest evidence‑based interventions that follow international norms, ICRC policies and operational goals, then oversee the rollout, monitoring and adjustment of services such as first‑aid, primary care, mobile clinics and the handling of deceased persons. The role also requires linking ICRC health actions with existing local health structures, managing the procurement and distribution of medical supplies, and providing training and mentorship to colleagues and partners. You will champion "Health Care in Danger" initiatives, keep stakeholders informed about the health context and outcomes, and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, health authorities and other humanitarian actors. When a team of up to five staff is present, you will supervise Health Field Officers. The successful candidate must hold a university degree in medicine or nursing and possess a valid licence to practice in the country of residence. At least three years of clinical work and a minimum of four years in public‑health or international humanitarian settings, including primary‑care experience in low‑resource environments, are required. Fluency at a C1 level in English and in either French or Arabic is mandatory. A manual‑transmission driving licence, a satisfactory medical examination and the willingness to accept unaccompanied assignments of twelve months each (or a total of twenty‑four months) are also essential. Additional assets include a postgraduate qualification in public health, tropical medicine or health management, certifications in primary health care or epidemiology, and training in Basic Emergency Care or Mass‑Casualty Incident Management. Prior involvement with the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, familiarity with the DHIS‑2 reporting tool, and knowledge of Spanish or Russian are considered advantageous. The role is mobile, based on a fixed‑term contract, and offers a multicultural humanitarian environment with online training, onboarding support and generous social benefits. Candidates will join a talent pool that may lead to future deployments in other locations. What the role asks for: - University degree in medicine or nursing - Licence to practise in country of residence - Minimum three years clinical experience - Minimum four years public‑health/humanitarian experience - English language at C1 level - French or Arabic language at C1 level - Manual‑transmission driving licence - Good health confirmed by medical exam
