Lead Software Engineer – CoCounsel Legal Desktop App 

The position is the Lead Software Engineer for the CoCounsel Legal desktop application, an AI‑driven tool that brings legal professionals a fast, integrated experience on Windows and macOS. As the founding engineer, you will set the technical benchmark for a product that aims to become indispensable to lawyers worldwide. In this role you will lay the architectural groundwork, choosing frameworks, project layout, inter‑process communication, packaging and auto‑update mechanisms that will guide the team for years to come. You will write production‑quality code for core capabilities such as the main agent interface, file integration, OS notifications, clipboard handling and system‑tray presence, while linking the app to backend services for streaming responses, authentication and workspace management. You will also define engineering standards, establish testing practices, enforce cross‑platform compatibility, mentor incoming engineers and collaborate closely with product and design to turn requirements into performant desktop experiences. The ideal candidate brings over seven years of software engineering experience, with deep expertise in building desktop applications for Windows and/or macOS. You must have a proven record of steering technical direction on a desktop product, delivering enterprise‑grade software, and working hands‑on with frameworks like Electron, Tauri or native APIs. Experience integrating desktop clients with cloud APIs—especially streaming, OAuth/SSO, and file‑system access—is required, as is the ability to mentor peers and clearly communicate technical trade‑offs. Preferred experience includes building greenfield desktop solutions, especially in legal tech, productivity or SaaS environments, and creating AI‑powered features such as streaming chat or context‑aware actions. Familiarity with enterprise deployment methods (MSI, PKG, MDM, SSO) is a plus.
