Huawei Technologies Switzerland AG, a global ICT leader that drives digital transformation through AI, cloud, smart devices and high‑performance computing, is looking for a Research Intern to help shape the next generation of rack‑scale and SuperPod computer architectures. In this role you will design elastic, high‑performance systems by co‑designing applications, parallel programming models, interconnect fabrics and the underlying compute, memory and switch chips. Your daily work will involve prototyping architectural features such as tiered memory with hardware‑managed caching, advanced prefetching and speculation mechanisms, near‑memory/network processing primitives, and workload‑centric co‑design for both general compute and generative‑AI tasks. You will also document findings in reports and scientific papers and present the results to the research team. The position requires a Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, together with a solid background in Computer Architecture and Computer Fabrics. Creativity and the ability to think outside the box are essential, as is proven research experience in at least one of the following domains: modern cache hierarchies and memory systems, scale‑up fabrics such as NVLink, CXL or PCIe, parallel programming libraries like NCCL/RCCL or RPC frameworks such as gRPC/Thrift, and optimisation of general‑compute or generative‑AI workloads at rack or SuperPod scale. Strong analytical, problem‑solving and system‑level thinking skills, plus excellent interpersonal abilities, a collaborative mindset and the capacity to work independently, are also required. Joining the Zurich research hub gives you the chance to collaborate with world‑class scientists and engineers in an open, curiosity‑driven environment. You will have access to state‑of‑the‑art tools and technologies, benefit from a competitive salary and enjoy the high quality of life that Zurich offers at the heart of Europe. The position also provides clear pathways for professional growth and the satisfaction of contributing to innovative projects that have a real impact on the future of computing. What the role asks for: - MSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field - Background in Computer Architecture and Computer Fabrics - Creativity and out‑of‑the‑box thinking - Research experience in Computer Architecture (caches, memory systems, prefetchers) - Research experience in Scale‑up Fabrics (NVLink, CXL, PCIe, etc.) - Research experience in Parallel programming models (NCCL/RCCL, gRPC/Thrift) - Research experience in Workload optimisation for General Compute and Generative AI at rack/SuperPod scale - Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and system‑level thinking skills - Strong interpersonal, collaborative and independent‑working abilities
