Project Manager

Thoratec Switzerland GmbH, part of Abbott Laboratories’ medical‑device arm, designs and builds magnetic‑levitation blood‑pump systems for patients with severe heart failure. The position of Project Manager is based in the company’s Zurich site, where a team of roughly one hundred and thirty staff develop, qualify and produce the CentriMag and HeartMate 3 devices. In this role the incumbent will organise and drive supplier‑centric improvement programmes, overseeing each phase from concept through to delivery. Tasks include defining scope, allocating resources, handling risk, and ensuring projects finish on schedule, within budget and to the required quality level. The manager will also support regulatory paperwork, travel occasionally for training and stakeholder meetings, and provide technical assistance to other departments when needed. Regular updates on project health will be presented to senior leadership, and close coordination with supply‑chain, manufacturing, quality, engineering and R&D groups will be essential. Applicants must hold a degree in engineering (or comparable knowledge) and bring three to ten years of engineering experience. Proven expertise in leading projects, especially with external suppliers, is required, together with solid financial insight and the ability to communicate clearly in both written and spoken form across functions. A basic grasp of regulatory and quality system expectations is mandatory, and a Lean Six Sigma certification is considered advantageous.
