Lab Technician - Prototype Additive Manufacturing

The Lab Technician, Prototype Additive Manufacturing will become the operational centre of a newly built in‑house prototype line, linking research and production by running equipment, gathering structured data and helping to close the feedback loop between R&D and manufacturing. On a daily basis the technician will operate the additive‑manufacturing machines for design‑of‑experiments campaigns and design‑rule validation, reproduce and troubleshoot issues that arise on the production line, and prepare samples for measurement. The role also includes capturing and reporting data in a structured format, offering process improvement suggestions, and maintaining the lab's laser‑cutting device. Additional duties involve caring for consumables, providing general hands‑on support throughout the prototype lab, and drafting or updating work instructions and standard procedures. The position requires more than eight years of practical experience with additive manufacturing or a closely related precision‑manufacturing process performed in a semi‑production or pilot‑line setting, together with a strong discipline for repeatable processes. Candidates must possess a deep practical knowledge of how machine setup, material choice and timing influence part quality, consistency and yield, and be skilled with precision measurement tools and structured data logging. They need to be able to replicate process conditions methodically for fault replication and root‑cause analysis, work independently in a laboratory, and communicate findings clearly both verbally and in written reports. Handling of process chemicals with appropriate PPE, writing auditable work instructions, and a solid awareness of basic EHS principles, including risk assessment, chemical storage and safe machine operation, are also mandatory. Experience operating a laser‑cutting machine (or comparable workshop equipment) and the flexibility to assist with other lab equipment or ad‑hoc tasks are required, as is fluency in English; French is considered a strong asset for integration on the Lausanne site. The role sits within the Process & Industrialisation team and collaborates closely with senior process engineers and R&D groups. Working in a clean‑room‑adjacent environment, the technician will enjoy a hands‑on, standing job with managed chemical exposure under defined PPE protocols.
