BOBST, a worldwide leader in industrial equipment and packaging solutions, is expanding its research and development division. The company seeks a Senior Writing Systems Engineer to help shape the next generation of high‑performance inkjet printing platforms. In this senior technical position, you will be responsible for steering the architecture and performance of the writing subsystem that sits at the core of digital printers. Daily tasks include defining targets for printheads, ink delivery, motion control and overall system dynamics, while challenging existing concepts and introducing novel approaches. You will own the complete lifecycle of complex assemblies, from initial concept through to market launch, ensuring that performance, quality, cost and manufacturability are balanced. The role also demands building physical and empirical models, planning and executing design‑of‑experiments, and turning data into actionable improvements. You will regularly present technical findings to both specialist and non‑technical audiences, aligning them with the product strategy. The job requires a solid academic background, typically a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, Material Science or a closely related discipline, combined with at least eight years of experience in demanding engineering settings. Candidates must have a proven track record in system‑level design and industrial product development, as well as a deep grasp of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics or system dynamics. Practical expertise with experimental rigs, data acquisition, statistical analysis and modelling is essential, and fluency in tools such as MATLAB or Python is expected. Experience with data‑driven optimisation and design‑of‑experiments is required, as is the ability to translate model outcomes into hardware improvements. A history of solving multidisciplinary root‑cause issues and delivering corrective actions across hardware, software and material domains is also essential. Additional assets include familiarity with inkjet or drop‑on‑demand printing technologies. BOBST promotes a culture of engineering excellence, encouraging curiosity, influence‑based leadership and clear communication across multidisciplinary teams. The environment offers opportunities to mentor junior engineers, contribute to strategic road‑maps and grow within a family‑run enterprise that values innovation and global impact. The position is based at BOBST's R&D hub, collaborating with more than 6,400 colleagues across 50 countries, providing a fast‑paced, cross‑functional setting and a family‑oriented atmosphere. What the role asks for: - Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, Material Science or related field - Minimum 8 years experience in complex engineering environments - Proven background in system‑level design and industrial product development - Deep knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics or system dynamics - Hands‑on experience with experimental setups, data collection and analysis - Proficiency in MATLAB, Python or comparable modelling tools - Nice-to-have: Familiarity with inkjet or drop‑on‑demand printing technology
