German Language and Literature Expert (German)

Mercor is looking for seasoned German Linguistic Experts to support a pioneering AI research initiative in collaboration with a top‑tier research laboratory. The position focuses on assessing how well a large language model handles German‑language tasks and on assembling high‑quality German data to enhance the model’s linguistic capabilities. Day‑to‑day duties include judging the quality and precision of model‑generated German output across scenarios such as translation, summarisation, dialogue and grammar correction. You will edit, polish or rewrite German material so it aligns with linguistic, cultural and literary standards, and you will annotate texts for grammatical, syntactic, semantic and stylistic traits. Errors and shortcomings identified in the model will be reported and discussed with AI researchers to drive improvements, while detailed literary feedback will steer ongoing training cycles. The role requires native‑level or near‑native German fluency together with an excellent command of grammar, syntax and style. Candidates must have professional background in literary editing, copywriting, criticism or NLP‑related annotation work performed in German. A deep appreciation of literary complexity, tone, genre‑specific conventions and regional language variants is essential. You need a meticulous eye for subtle translation flaws or awkward phrasing, and strong written communication skills, especially within remote, distributed teams. An interest in artificial intelligence, translation tools or LLM‑focused language research is welcomed but not mandatory.
