Development Engineer (contract 80-100%)

Roche’s System Development department within R&D focuses on streamlining workflows and integrating hardware, software, consumables and reagents to verify diagnostic instruments. As a Development Engineer you will join a global, cross‑functional team that automates and creates tooling for already launched, complex diagnostic systems, contributing to Roche’s mission of preventing, stopping and curing disease while ensuring broad access to healthcare. Your daily work will involve shaping robotics concepts—particularly cobot‑based solutions—inside a laboratory setting to move toward a fully automated “dark lab”. You will write, test and maintain new and existing automation scripts, support integration teams during installation and troubleshooting of robotic equipment, and manage work packages from planning through execution, reporting progress and escalating issues as needed. Collaboration both as an independent contributor and as part of a team is essential. The role requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree, preferably in computer science, electrical, mechanical or systems engineering, with solid knowledge of robotics or vision. Professional software development experience in at least one language such as UR‑Polyscope, Python, C#/NET or LabView is mandatory. Fluency in spoken and written English is required, while German language skills are considered a plus. You must be able to communicate with diverse audiences, build relationships across projects, and quickly grasp complex technical challenges.
