The role of Specialist for the Optimization of the Transmission System at Swissgrid involves ensuring the smooth flow of electricity across Switzerland. Swissgrid is a key player in the electricity industry, focusing on the operation of the transmission system and the markets for ancillary services. The company is responsible for managing congestion at Swiss borders and actively shaping the development of the electricity market in Switzerland and Europe. The main day-to-day responsibilities include developing functionalities in energy management and decision support for real-time operation and forward planning of the transmission grid. This involves creating and refining applications for current and voltage control, such as Power Flow, Contingency Analysis, and Optimal Power Flow. The role also includes conceptualizing, prototyping, and testing network computation and optimization algorithms, as well as providing business-side support for these applications, including error analysis, algorithm tuning, and user feedback analysis. To excel in this role, candidates must have a degree in engineering, such as electrical engineering, energy science, control engineering, operations research, or a similar field. Experience in modeling, simulation, and optimization of power systems is essential. Additionally, proficiency in mathematical optimization algorithms, data handling, and programming skills, particularly in Python or comparable languages, are required. Strong communication skills to interact with application users and stakeholders are also crucial. Nice-to-have skills include an open mind for interdisciplinary activities and pragmatic problem-solving abilities. The location in Aarau offers a state-of-the-art working environment near the railway station, with flexible working hours and a motivated team. The company provides 25-30 working days of holiday, including company holidays between Christmas and New Year. What the role asks for: - Completed studies in the field of engineering (e.g. electrical engineering, energy sciences, control engineering, operations research or similar). - Experience in the areas of modeling, simulation and optimization of power systems. - Experience with mathematical optimization algorithms, data and programming skills (Python or similar). - Very good English skills. - German skills are an advantage.
