Electrical Works Supervisor (EN-EL-CS-2025-277-LD)

CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, designs and operates the world’s most sophisticated scientific instruments to explore the fundamental structure of the universe. Within the Cabling Section, the Electrical Works Supervisor will lead the expansion, reinforcement and upkeep of control‑ and power‑cable systems that serve alarm, process control, beam instrumentation and magnet‑powering installations across the accelerator complex. The daily routine involves analysing requests for new installations or dismantling, coordinating directly with requestors to gather all necessary details, and conducting on‑site technical visits to organise the work. The supervisor prepares bills of quantities and quotations, drafts detailed technical documentation for the electrical installation contractor, and arranges logistics such as material delivery, scaffolding and site access. Risk assessments are carried out to identify hazards and define mitigation measures in line with CERN safety standards. Throughout the project the supervisor monitors progress, safety and quality, reports on the status of the works, and performs inspection, testing and acceptance of the completed installations. The position requires a technical certificate or an equivalent secondary education together with relevant experience in industrial electrical installation. Candidates must have proven experience in planning, preparing and overseeing industrial electrical projects, including the application of lock‑out/tag‑out procedures. They should also have a track record of verifying that electrical installations meet applicable standards and specifications, and of supervising contractors on site. Core technical knowledge includes construction, testing and commissioning of electrical circuits and networks, as well as their operation and maintenance, plus strong organisational, planning and control skills. Fluency in spoken and written English or French is essential, together with a commitment to learn the other language. A valid driving licence is also required. The role is based at CERN’s Geneva site, with a hybrid working model that combines office and on‑site presence. Work will be performed in radiation‑controlled zones and underground installations, and may involve shift work, stand‑by duty and occasional night, weekend or holiday assignments. The contract is limited‑duration for five years, with the possibility of extension up to eight years and eventual eligibility for a permanent position. CERN offers a tax‑free salary that rises with experience, 30 days of paid leave plus a two‑week annual closure, comprehensive health insurance, pension membership, family allowances and a relocation package where appropriate. The environment is highly international, inclusive and driven by scientific curiosity, providing ample opportunities for professional growth and collaboration with leading physicists and engineers. What the role asks for: - Technical certificate or equivalent secondary education in industrial electrical installation - Proven experience planning and overseeing industrial electrical works - Experience implementing lockout/tagout procedures - Experience verifying compliance of electrical installations with standards - Experience supervising electrical contractors - Knowledge of construction, testing, commissioning of electrical circuits - Knowledge of operation and maintenance of electrical networks - Ability to organise, plan and control projects - Fluent spoken and written English or French - Commitment to learn the other language (English/French) - Valid driving licence - Availability for shift work, stand‑by and night/weekend duties - Willingness to work in radiation areas and underground installations
