Software Developer - Beam Optics (BE-ABP-LNO-2026-132-GRAP)

The position is for a Software Developer in the Linear and Non‑Linear Optics Section of CERN’s Accelerator and Beam Physics Group, contributing to the High‑Luminosity Large Hadron Collider programme. Working within the Optics Measurement and Correction team, you will help create the software that underpins precise beam‑optics measurements, corrections and commissioning activities for the HL‑LHC. Your daily work will involve keeping the core OMC framework up‑to‑date and expanding its toolset, investigating new software approaches that boost the efficiency of optics measurements, and adapting accelerator‑model creation and correction algorithms to incorporate fresh simulation capabilities. You will also look into automating key measurement and analysis steps, build new graphical interfaces and analysis utilities for use in the CERN Control Centre, and take part in the interpretation of optics data gathered from the accelerators. Candidates must have a solid background in programming and software design, with proven experience in Python and familiarity with version‑control platforms such as GitHub. Experience in developing graphical user interfaces is required, and a knowledge of particle‑accelerator physics is considered advantageous. The role calls for strong software‑development skills, the ability to test, diagnose and optimise existing code, and a structured, priority‑driven work style. Excellent teamwork and communication abilities are essential, as is fluency in English or French together with a willingness to learn the other language.
