Distalmotion's Instruments, Product Improvement team is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to lead cost‑focused design work on the surgical system's instruments. The company develops advanced robotic surgery technology and seeks engineers who can enhance product performance while reducing manufacturing expenses. In this role you will define, prototype and implement mechanical parts and custom tooling, always keeping Design for Manufacturing, Assembly and Cost in mind. You will spot and justify cost‑saving opportunities on existing instruments, work with internal and external partners from prototype build through testing and industrialisation, and ensure all changes meet regulatory standards. Impact analysis of design modifications, financial evaluation of tooling investments, scrap reduction and cycle‑time gains are also part of the daily tasks, as is supervising design verification and collaborating with Operations, Quality and Regulatory Affairs. The position requires a mechanical or microtechnology engineering degree (BSc or MSc) and at least five years of experience in the medical‑device sector or another highly regulated field such as aerospace or automotive. Candidates must be proficient in CAD, preferably SOLIDWORKS, and have solid background in Design for Manufacturing for medium‑to‑high volume production, as well as hands‑on experience with design‑control processes, risk analysis and failure‑mode analysis. Knowledge of change‑management workflows, strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, effective communication, and fluency in both French and English are essential. Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR 820 and MDR compliance is also required.
