The role of Team Leader, Optical Engineering, Ultrafast Fiber and Free-Space Laser Systems involves leading a team within the Engineering/R&D organization. The company specializes in innovating supercontinuum lasers and photonic crystal fibers, with applications in medical research, quantum computing, and space exploration. The team leader will guide the development of advanced ultrafast laser systems, combining fiber-based and free-space optical technologies. The main day-to-day responsibilities include leading and managing a team of optical and laser engineers, setting clear objectives, and guiding the development of laser systems. This involves overseeing the design, development, integration, and industrialization of these systems throughout the product lifecycle. The role also requires providing expert technical guidance on various aspects of laser technology, balancing project priorities, and ensuring robust transfer of designs to operations. Additionally, the team leader will drive cross-functional alignment, contribute to customer and supplier interactions, and identify technology trends for product improvements. To qualify for this role, candidates must have a Master's degree or PhD in Physics, Photonics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. Formal leadership or management training is also an advantage. Deep expert knowledge of laser physics and ultrafast laser technology, with extensive hands-on experience in fiber and free-space optics, is essential. Candidates should have a strong understanding of laser system architecture and experience in developing industrial laser products. Knowledge of product safety, laser safety, and risk management is also required. Nice-to-have skills include experience with optical simulation, data analysis, and programming tools such as Python, LabVIEW, or Zemax OpticStudio. Experience in regulated product development environments, such as ISO 13485, is also an advantage.
