Manufacturing Engineering – Maintenance & Facility Control

Thoratec Switzerland GmbH, part of Abbott’s medical‑device division, creates and builds blood‑pump systems that sustain patients with severe heart failure. Based in Zurich, the team of roughly 140 engineers, quality specialists and production staff develops products such as the CentriMag and HeartMate 3, which are deployed worldwide in intensive‑care environments. The Manufacturing Engineer for Maintenance & Facility Control will be responsible for keeping production machinery and plant utilities running safely and consistently. Duties include overseeing upkeep procedures, launching projects that boost system reliability, acting as the technical steward for designated equipment throughout its life cycle, and handling change‑management tasks in the PLM platform. The role also requires preparing precise, regulatory‑aligned records, coordinating qualification and validation work, probing any deviations together with quality engineers, and supporting audit activities as the subject‑matter authority. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from a recognized institution and possess one to four years of relevant experience, with early‑career profiles welcomed. The ideal applicant works methodically, can operate autonomously, and communicates fluently in English while also speaking German at a functional level. Additional assets include prior exposure to the medical‑device sector or other regulated fields, familiarity with standards such as ISO 13485 or FDA 21 CFR 820, and an interest in qualification and validation tasks.
