Photonics System Architect

The role of Photonics System Architect at Lightium involves leading the system-level design and requirements management for the company's proprietary thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) platform. Lightium is a pioneering photonics startup focused on advancing photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technology. The main day-to-day responsibilities include designing optical on-chip communication systems based on customer requirements, setting up system-level specifications, and driving schematic design and layout. The role also involves acting as the key interface with external parties, managing requirements, and collaborating with R&D teams. Additionally, the architect will maintain thorough documentation, report findings, and stay updated on the latest advancements in photonics. To qualify for this role, candidates must have an advanced degree, preferably a PhD, in Communications, Integrated Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. At least 5 years of experience in RF and optical system design in integrated photonics, including ISO-compliant requirements management, is required. Proficiency in system-level design tools and a strong understanding of system-level architectures in photonics are essential. Prior experience with TFLN, silicon photonics, SiN, InP, or related photonics platforms is mandatory. Nice-to-have skills include experience with IEEE standards, proficiency in quantum computing systems, and knowledge of optical communication between or towards satellites. Fluency in English is required, with knowledge of German, French, or an Asian language being an advantage.
