The Kirby Institute at UNSW Sydney is a globally recognised health research centre dedicated to eliminating infectious diseases, especially within vulnerable populations. As a Research Fellow (Biostatistician) you will join a multidisciplinary environment that turns extensive health, social and surveillance data into evidence that shapes policy and practice. In this full‑time, 12‑month fixed‑term position you will design, document and execute statistical analyses of national linked datasets. Your work will involve preparing analysis plans, writing code, managing large‑scale data, creating visualisations and drafting scientific reports and manuscripts. You will collaborate closely with investigators, stakeholders and a diverse team, presenting findings to both academic and policy audiences while contributing to high‑impact publications. The role requires a PhD (or comparable experience) in a relevant field and advanced competence with statistical software such as STATA, R, SAS, PySpark and Python. You must have proven experience handling linked health data, producing statistical analysis plans and using version‑control tools like GitHub. Independent, high‑quality research capability, a solid record of peer‑reviewed papers and conference talks, and the ability to develop sophisticated data‑management and analytical methods are essential. Strong teamwork, interdisciplinary collaboration and relationship‑building skills are also mandatory, as is the legal right to work in Australia. The position offers a competitive salary package of $118,467 plus 17 % superannuation and leave loading, flexible working arrangements, three extra days of leave over the Christmas period and access to lifelong learning and career development resources.
