Laboratory Technician (80%)

The Biozentrum of the University of Basel, a world‑leading life‑sciences institute, is looking for a Laboratory Technician to join the Bumann Lab. The position is part of an SNSF Ambizione project led by Dr Alaa Alhayek that studies how *Staphylococcus aureus* penetrates intact human skin, aiming to map bacterial entry routes and host defence mechanisms. Day‑to‑day work will involve close collaboration with Dr Alhayek on the Ambizione project, performing reliable laboratory experiments, organising samples, and contributing to a highly collaborative research setting. The role demands independent work, good organisational habits and the flexibility to adapt to evolving experimental needs. Applicants must hold a "Laborant/in" qualification or a Bachelor/Master degree in Biology or a related field. Prior experience in cell or tissue culture, molecular biology and microbiology is required. The job also calls for flexibility, dependable lab practice, strong organisational skills, the ability to work autonomously and a genuine enthusiasm for infection biology and microscopy. Experience with human tissue, histology, confocal microscopy, RNA FISH, image analysis or work in biosafety level 2 laboratories is considered advantageous but not mandatory. The Bumann Lab offers a vibrant, international environment and training in ex‑vivo tissue models, advanced microscopy and quantitative image analysis. The contract starts on 1 January 2027 for an initial period of one year.
