CERN is the European Organization for Nuclear Research, where physicists and engineers explore the fundamental structure of the universe with the world’s most powerful scientific instruments. The Short‑Term Internship 2026 offers undergraduate students a chance to join this environment for a period of one to six months, gaining practical, on‑the‑job experience while contributing to CERN’s research and support activities. During the internship you will be attached to a team that matches your field of study, whether it is applied physics, computing, engineering, instrumentation, materials science, radiation protection, safety, surveying, ultra‑high vacuum, scientific communication, or an administrative discipline such as translation, accounting or human resources. You will assist experts on real projects, attend meetings, and receive mentorship that helps you apply theoretical knowledge to concrete tasks. The daily work is supervised, allowing you to observe and participate in the collaborative processes that drive CERN’s scientific and operational programmes. To be considered you must be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State, enrolled full‑time in a Bachelor or Master programme that leads to a technical or administrative diploma, and you must not be pursuing a PhD. Applicants need to be at least 18 years old, keep their student status throughout the placement, and study in one of the listed scientific or administrative areas. A good working command of English or French is required, as is proof that your university provides insurance valid for medical care and accidents in the Geneva region. The application must include a CV in English or French saved as a PDF, and you will have to indicate the period you are available for the internship. The position is based at CERN’s Geneva site, offering a unique international setting where diversity and inclusion are core values. Interns receive a monthly allowance of 1 593 Swiss Francs, adjusted proportionally for part‑month work, and are entitled to paid leave for contracts lasting four months or more. The experience is highly regarded on a CV, providing exposure to cutting‑edge research and a network of professionals from many disciplines. While the programme does not require any specific certifications, a genuine interest in CERN’s mission and the ability to thrive in a multicultural, fast‑moving environment are advantageous. What the role asks for: - National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State - Full‑time Bachelor or Master student in technical/administrative field - Not enrolled in a PhD programme - Minimum age of 18 years - Field of study matches listed scientific or administrative areas - Working proficiency in English or French - Valid insurance covering Geneva area for medical and accidents - CV submitted in English or French PDF format
