Technical Studentship - Mechanical Engineering 2027-1

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, offers a Technical Studentship in Mechanical Engineering that lets a student join a world‑leading research centre where scientific discovery and engineering innovation go hand in hand. The position is designed for a university learner who will gain practical exposure while contributing to the laboratory’s mechanical projects, all within an environment that values curiosity and collaborative learning. During the placement the student will support senior engineers, technicians and scientists, taking part in tasks that span concept design, production, assembly and testing of mechanical parts and systems. Daily work will be carried out under close guidance, allowing the trainee to apply classroom knowledge to real‑world challenges and to share ideas with an international, multidisciplinary team. Applicants must be enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering programme or a closely related discipline and have completed at least three semesters of study. Candidates need to be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State (with certain exceptions) and must possess a solid grasp of core mechanical principles, a proactive learning mindset, and the ability to communicate effectively in English or French within a culturally diverse group. The role starts on 1 April 2027, runs full‑time on‑site for four to twelve months, and includes a tax‑free monthly stipend of 3 486 CHF, 30 days of paid leave, health‑insurance coverage and possible travel and family allowances.
