Head of Design

Proton, the privacy‑first suite founded by CERN scientists in 2014, provides encrypted email, VPN, cloud storage, password management and calendar tools to millions worldwide. As Head of Design, you will steer both product and brand design, ensuring that privacy‑centric thinking shapes every user experience and visual communication across the company’s global portfolio. In this role you will set and carry out a unified design vision that links product interfaces with the overall brand identity. You will guide the complete design workflow for major offerings and campaigns, from user research and service design through UI, motion and interactive prototypes, while maintaining a consistent brand presence on digital, mobile, web, event and physical touchpoints. Building and evolving design systems, tools and processes to boost efficiency and quality will be central, as will measuring impact through experience metrics, brand perception and conversion data. You will also represent Proton’s design perspective at conferences and collaborate with external agencies. The position requires at least fifteen years of senior design leadership in a global technology firm or agency, with a proven record of creating and scaling multidisciplinary design teams. Candidates must have hands‑on experience overseeing both product UX/UI and brand/marketing design, and a portfolio that demonstrates end‑to‑end work from research to visual output. Strong stakeholder management at the executive level, a deep user‑centred mindset, expertise in design systems, and the ability to mentor senior designers are essential. Fluency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
