Design Engineer

Cannondale, a leading innovator in the cycling world for more than five decades, is looking for a Design Engineer to join its engineering team in Freiburg, Germany. The company creates high‑performance bicycles and components, aiming to make cycling accessible to riders of all ages and abilities while fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. In this role you will develop frames and components from initial concept through to mass production. Daily tasks involve building and refining CAD models and large assemblies, contributing to concept development, prototyping, and iterative design work. You will translate design intent into manufacturable solutions, taking into account routing, integration and system‑level requirements, and you will collaborate closely with suppliers, testing, and production teams to deliver products on time, within budget, and according to specification. Supporting validation, testing and continuous‑improvement activities will also be part of your responsibilities. The position requires a degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering and 2‑4 years of experience engineering consumer products. You must understand tube‑forming, forging, gravity casting and plastic injection‑moulding processes, and possess strong mechanical aptitude for solving complex packaging, assembly and mechanism challenges. Familiarity with bicycle products and their assembly, fluency in 2D and 3D design software with solid surfacing ability, and Finite Element Analysis skills for aluminium structures are essential. High self‑motivation, the capacity to manage several projects simultaneously, excellent communication and problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work in versatile international teams are also required. You must be able to drive a company vehicle for off‑site work, be proficient in English, be a passionate cyclist, and have no travel restrictions, allowing international travel when needed. Nice‑to‑have experience includes at least two years designing bicycle frames or components, work with eMTB products, advanced surfacing expertise in SolidWorks, product development with Asian manufacturing factories, hands‑on experience as a bicycle mechanic, metal‑working or fabrication skills, and collaboration with industrial designers.
