Repositories Renewal Project – WREO upgrade now complete

White Rose Libraries has been driving its Repository Renewal Project since 2022, aiming to modernise the infrastructure that supports its digital collections. After a thorough assessment of needs and a period of consultancy and market testing in 2024, the consortium reaffirmed its commitment to the EPrints platform for the next stage of repository services. The initial phase of this upgrade, focused on the WREO system, began in November 2024 and involved reviewing the existing setup, rebuilding it on the newest EPrints release (version 3.4.6), and conducting extensive security, functionality and accessibility checks. Following central testing, teams in Leeds, Sheffield and York carried out user trials, leading to a successful migration to the live server in early January 2025. A detailed report on the project’s scope and recommendations is now available on the WRL website.
