Strategic Sourcing Manager - Raw Material & Surface Treatment

The Strategic Sourcing Manager – Raw Material & Surface Treatment will lead the development and execution of global sourcing strategies for our direct‑material portfolio. Working within a company that supplies complex machine‑building, vacuum‑technology and semiconductor solutions, the role partners with business units, engineering, product‑line supply chains, supplier quality, production and materials management to secure the right supply capability at the lowest total cost while safeguarding brand value. On a daily basis the manager will own the assigned material categories, drive performance in quality, delivery and cost, and represent the categories inside the VAT organization. Responsibilities include shaping category‑specific cost‑optimisation and geographic sourcing plans, providing market trend insights, acting as a change agent with key stakeholders, and developing sourcing strategies using defined tools. The role also requires active management of the global supplier base together with teams in Switzerland, Malaysia and Romania, leading cross‑functional sourcing boards, conducting risk assessments, and contributing to the main sourcing KPIs and continuous‑improvement initiatives. The position demands at least five years of strategic and operational sourcing experience combined with deep knowledge of global category management. Candidates must have hands‑on experience with production techniques relevant to raw materials and surface treatment, solid understanding of the associated sourcing markets, and proven ability to work in a large, complex, multinational organization. Proficiency with Microsoft Office—especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint—is required, as is prior sourcing work in Eastern Europe and Asia, including best‑cost‑country and spend‑relocation projects. Experience in machine building, vacuum technology or semiconductor environments, as well as functional‑level cross‑category team leadership, are essential. Strong analytical, risk‑based thinking, empathetic communication with suppliers and internal partners, and the capacity to multitask under pressure are also mandatory, together with fluent German and English. The role is based in a globally dispersed team, with a focus on expanding a qualified best‑cost‑country supply base, preferably in Eastern Europe. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across several continents, gaining exposure to a diverse set of markets and technologies.
