Director of Operations, Payments EMEA

Fireblocks Liechtenstein Ltd. is establishing a licensed payment institution that delivers Account Information Services and Payment Initiation Services across the EEA. The company’s platform enables large banks, financial firms and Web‑3 players to handle digital assets securely, and the Director of Operations will sit on the executive team, overseeing the sound functioning of this newly authorised entity. Each day the director will act as the chief liaison with the Liechtenstein Financial Market Authority, handling supervisory matters, regulatory reporting and audit coordination. He or she will ensure the business stays within the limits of its licence, support board activities, and take responsibility for the delivery of AIS and PIS services. Oversight of the outsourced technology arrangement, including service‑level monitoring and quarterly reviews, falls to this role, as does management of business‑continuity plans, incident escalation, customer onboarding, support routing and data‑governance in partnership with Risk & Compliance. The incumbent will also maintain the risk register, control framework and commercial‑financial governance, and may lend operational expertise to other regulated Fireblocks activities. The position requires proven operational leadership inside a regulated financial institution such as a payment, e‑money, banking or crypto‑asset provider. Candidates should have hands‑on experience with Liechtenstein or broader EEA regulations, preferably having participated in a licence application and ongoing regulator dialogue. A background in payments, open‑banking (AIS/PIS) and outsourcing governance is essential, as is the seniority to act as a controlling function before the regulator, sound judgement, personal accountability and the ability to work with distributed teams. The applicant must satisfy the FMA’s fit‑and‑proper assessment. Residence in Liechtenstein or a neighbouring country such as Switzerland is acceptable, with travel to Liechtenstein required and occasional alignment to US‑based working hours. Compensation is estimated between €150 000 and €205 000, complemented by potential bonus, equity and generous benefits.
