The Backend Software Engineer (Java) role is based in the development office of Biel/Bienne, where the team focuses on creating reliable and robust software solutions for cashless transactions. The Backend Software Engineer (Java) will work within an agile, DevOps environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams across Switzerland and Italy. Daily tasks include designing, building, testing, and maintaining new features for cashless payment systems using state-of-the-art technologies. The engineer will also work closely with product owners and business engineers to translate client needs into technical solutions. Additionally, the role involves writing clean, well-documented code, participating in code reviews, and handling deployment, monitoring, and incident response. The engineer will also contribute to improving the performance, scalability, and reliability of applications, as well as optimizing the deployment infrastructure and future technology roadmap. To excel in this role, candidates must have a higher education in information technology, strong programming skills in Jakarta EE, and experience with relational databases, Git, Maven, Quarkus, Docker, Kafka, and Linux. Proficiency in English is required, with French, German, or Italian being an asset. The ideal candidate should be a team player, able to break down complex problems and drive solutions, and capable of working under pressure, such as during major outages. Nice-to-have skills include the ability to work remotely within Switzerland and internationally, with flexible working hours.
