Internship Artificial Intelligence & Surgical Navigation – 6 Months | Start Spring 2027

Stryker’s research and development hub in Freiburg is looking for an intern to join its Artificial Intelligence & Surgical Navigation team for a six‑month placement beginning in spring 2027. The position sits within a global medical‑device leader that creates technology to improve patient care. During the internship you will help build and validate computer‑vision models that enable real‑time tracking of surgical instruments. Your tasks will include preparing and annotating image data, supporting the testing of prototypes on surgical simulators, and assisting the team in evaluating algorithm performance. The role requires you to be actively enrolled in a Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering or a comparable program. You must be comfortable coding in Python and have experience with deep‑learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, as well as a solid grasp of image‑processing techniques, three‑dimensional geometry and basic statistical methods. Experience working with medical‑imaging datasets or robotics projects, together with strong analytical thinking and clear communication, is considered a plus. The internship offers direct exposure to state‑of‑the‑art AI‑driven navigation tools that influence surgical outcomes, and the chance to collaborate with a multidisciplinary group of experts in a leading international company.
