Senior Mechanical Engineer – Power Electronics Packaging

RIVR, a robotics venture now part of Amazon, builds wheeled‑legged machines that navigate complex urban terrain to deliver parcels directly to customers. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Power Electronics Packaging you will shape the mechanical architecture, packaging strategy and wiring‑harness layout for the company’s power distribution boards and control electronics, supporting the broader mission of physical AI‑driven last‑mile delivery. Your daily work will involve steering the clean‑sheet creation of electronic enclosures from concept through to high‑volume production, tackling issues such as electrical isolation, sealing, thermal control, shock, vibration and electromagnetic interference. You will conduct analyses—thermal, CFD, structural—using simulation tools, define validation tests together with the testing group, perform root‑cause investigations and devise corrective actions. The role also requires producing detailed 2‑D drawings and documentation, guaranteeing part and assembly manufacturability, and leading supplier discussions on design‑for‑manufacture and assembly. The position demands a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a comparable background, plus more than six years of hands‑on experience designing electro‑mechanical assemblies, electronic enclosures and wire harnesses for mobile platforms. Proficiency in CAD systems such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX or CATIA, and familiarity with validation software like Ansys or COMSOL, are essential. You must possess solid knowledge of PLM, heat transfer, structural design, material selection, fluids and GD&T, as well as experience moving prototypes to mass production through methods including die casting, injection molding and extrusion. Understanding of electronic component manufacturing, test‑plan creation and root‑cause analysis is also required. Additional assets include prior work on harness design and routing, close collaboration with electrical engineers to specify connectors, terminals and wire gauges, and the ability to generate wiring layouts and pin‑out tables for suppliers.
