Staff System Architect

IonQ, the leading quantum‑platform and merchant supplier, builds integrated solutions for computing, networking, sensing and security, with its newest generation of quantum computers, the IonQ Tempo, already serving customers such as Amazon Web Services, AstraZeneca and others. The company is seeking a Staff System Architect who will devote all effort to the SNSPD product line, steering the technical architecture and roadmap for a forthcoming rack‑mountable Superconducting Nanowire Single‑Photon Detector platform. In this position the architect will sit at the crossroads of quantum photonics, cryogenic‑systems engineering and embedded‑systems design, helping to shape a scalable, maintainable framework that enables autonomous, round‑the‑clock detector operation. The role involves deep participation in the development workflow for IDQ’s SNSPD platform, which underpins applications in quantum computing, networking and sensing. Responsibilities include owning the complete system architecture, converting product requirements into clear, system‑level designs and specifications, defining the overall structure, interfaces and pivotal architectural choices, and guiding essential trade‑off decisions to keep the design aligned with a shared long‑term product vision. The posting does not list explicit qualifications, years of experience, language proficiency or certifications, so there are no stated mandatory requirements to reference. Likewise, no preferred or optional skills are mentioned. IonQ’s headquarters are in College Park, Maryland, with additional sites across the United States, Europe and Asia, offering a globally distributed environment. The role is positioned within a high‑impact team that drives the evolution of cutting‑edge cryogenic photon‑detection technology, supporting the company’s ambition to make quantum platforms ever more accessible and influential.
