Senior Backend Engineer

The role is a Senior Backend Engineer focused on Nexthink Assist, the AI‑native product that powers real‑time, conversational interactions for users. The engineer will design, build and scale distributed backend services that support millions of concurrent users. Core duties include creating low‑latency APIs, developing cloud‑native Java services, and managing infrastructure on AWS with Docker and Kubernetes/ECS. The position also involves end‑to‑end feature delivery, from design through deployment and monitoring, as well as ensuring resiliency, fault tolerance and compliance in high‑throughput environments. Collaboration with product managers, infrastructure teams and other stakeholders is essential, as is mentoring junior engineers and guiding technical decisions across the organization. Candidates must bring at least eight years of professional backend engineering experience and be proficient in modern Java (version 17 or newer). They need a proven track record of designing and scaling systems for millions of users or high‑throughput real‑time services, along with solid knowledge of cloud‑native architectures (AWS or similar), containerisation (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes/ECS). Experience with distributed data technologies such as Redis or Apache Kafka, exposure to large‑language‑model integration, and a strong background in high‑availability, failover and resiliency design are also required. The role demands excellent observability skills, logging, monitoring, tracing and metrics, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly in English.
