Satellite Communication Systems Engineer

At Destinus, a pioneer in defense‑focused unmanned aerial vehicles, the Satellite Communication Systems Engineer will help shape the communications backbone for some of the most advanced UAVs in the world. The company partners with government and defense agencies worldwide, delivering high‑speed, precise, and cost‑effective aerospace solutions. In this role you will translate mission needs into communication capabilities, craft and refine link budgets, and model link performance to guide design choices and mitigate risk. You will design signal‑processing and data algorithms, build end‑to‑end system architectures, and lead validation and system‑level testing to confirm mission readiness. Integration of cutting‑edge hardware such as modems, antennas, and waveguides into flight platforms, as well as producing clear technical documentation and coordinating with software, avionics, flight‑systems and defense teams, are also core activities. The position requires deep expertise in satellite communications, particularly RF and mmWave payloads, and a solid grasp of RF architectures, modulation schemes, and waveform design. You must understand radio‑propagation effects like multipath and fading, be proficient in signal‑processing using Python or similar tools, and have experience with system‑level modelling and simulation. Clear, concise documentation of complex systems is essential. Additional strengths include familiarity with encryption and compression algorithms, knowledge of multi‑beam antennas and beam‑forming or resource‑allocation techniques, and the ability to work closely with suppliers and partners. Destinus offers a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment where engineers collaborate globally, see their work directly impact future flight, and operate within an inclusive culture that values diversity and equal opportunity.
