The role of a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is unique, focusing on direct customer impact rather than traditional product engineering. FDEs work closely with strategic customers and partners to design, build, and ship bespoke technical solutions that address specific use cases. The main day-to-day responsibilities of a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer include working directly with Synthesia's most strategic customers and partners to design and build bespoke technical solutions. This involves owning the full build cycle for custom engagements, from scoping and architecture through to delivery, with a focus on speed and impact. FDEs also bridge the gap between technical and business stakeholders, translating ambiguous customer requirements into working prototypes and production-grade solutions within tight timelines. They partner with internal product and engineering teams to feed real-world customer needs back into the product roadmap and identify patterns across customer engagements to define where bespoke builds should become platform features. To qualify for the role, candidates must have a bias for action, rapid learning abilities, customer instinct, and commercial awareness. They should be comfortable working across the stack or with APIs and integrations to deliver solutions quickly. Experience building and shipping working software, familiarity with enterprise customer technical integrations, and experience using AI tools to accelerate output are essential. Some exposure to customer or commercial contexts is also required. Nice-to-have skills include the ability to represent Synthesia's technical capabilities confidently and credibly in customer meetings, workshops, and discovery sessions.
