IonQ, Inc. is a leading quantum platform and merchant supplier, delivering integrated quantum solutions across various fields, including computing, networking, sensing, and security. The company's latest quantum computers, the IonQ Tempo, have been instrumental in helping customers and partners like Amazon Web Services and AstraZeneca achieve significant performance results and accelerate innovation in various sectors. The Principal Engineer - Classical Cryptography & Architecture role involves owning the classical cryptography architecture of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) hardware acceleration products. This includes working on hardware security module (HSM) and network-appliance applications. The role requires a deep understanding of both classical and post-quantum algorithms and standards, as well as key management, crypto agility, and migration paths. The engineer will work closely with PQC architecture leadership to ensure the seamless integration of classical and post-quantum cryptographic functions. The main day-to-day responsibilities include defining the architecture and implementation strategy for classical cryptographic functions, such as symmetric ciphers, hash functions, RSA/ECC offload, and true random number generation. The engineer will also be responsible for developing hybrid classical/post-quantum schemes, ensuring crypto-agility, and supporting FIPS 140-3 and CAVP certification. Additionally, the role involves guiding RTL and software engineers, evaluating third-party IP, and ensuring interoperability with deployed HSM, TLS, and IPsec ecosystems. Must-have requirements include a Master's or PhD in Cryptography, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, and at least twelve years of experience in implementing and architecting classical cryptography in real products. The role also requires a deep command of symmetric and asymmetric primitives, modes of operation, and key management. The position is based onsite in Geneva, Switzerland. Nice-to-have skills include experience with hybrid and composite approaches in cryptography, as well as familiarity with NIST guidance and IETF work on hybrid key establishment in TLS 1.3 and IKEv2. The role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic and innovative environment, contributing to the development of cutting-edge quantum-safe communication solutions. What the role asks for: - A Master's or PhD in Cryptography, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field. - Twelve years of experience implementing and architecting classical cryptography in real products. - Deep command of symmetric and asymmetric primitives, modes of operation, and key management.
